Submissions for The Rival’s scary selfie contest are in! Contestants entered their super spooky selfies using the hashtag #TheRivalScarySelfie on Twitter and Instagram for a chance to win $50. That is a lot of Chick-fil-A right there.
Now YOU as a reader and Rival enthusiast have until Saturday, November 7th to vote for your favorite. It’s simple: Go to The Rival GMU homepage, scroll to the bottom, and click your favorite #scaryselfie. Try not to crap your pants as you click on the best one. The winner will be announced Sunday, November 8th.
Here are some of our favorite costumes this year:
Emily Green and Maxwell McGaw as Pikachu and Team Rocket
This cute couple spent Halloween walking around the Washington Monument and Chinatown in D.C. to see what people would say.
“Most high-fived him for finally catching me,” says Emily. Can I just say that this girl really deserves a high-five for making the outfit herself with “a lot of hot glue”? She’s allegedly got the burn-mark battle scars to prove it.
Emily Novack and Anthony Green as Mother Nature and Father Time
In response to the typical post-Halloweekend inquiry, “What did you do for Halloween?” Anthony says, “We went back in time.”
AnchorPatriots Giovanna Govea and Chase Stahl as Veronica Corningstone and Ron Burgundy
“We went to A Nightmare on M Street in D.C. and got recognized by many people as ‘the best costume we’ve seen all night.’ Costume goal = accomplished,” says Gio.
Here is the whole crew from Anchorman:
These guys were quite anchored to their roles:
“Chase and his three roommates practiced getting into character for a week so they could make sure to personify the characters correctly. Quotes and all!” says Gio.
Alec Brown as Brian Fontana, Dillon Powell as Champ Kind, and Andrew Lawson as Brick Tamland
Very Spook, Much Notable
On All Hallows’ Eve, some students emerged as zealous zombies, reawakening their peers to the issues that matter most.
“It was for The Walking Debt! It was with GMU Student Power. We were taking action to highlight that tuition costs at Mason are infecting students with debt,” says Emily Swain.
Caiti Hof and Best Friend, Dana Sembera, as Somewhat Intense Gypsies
On Halloween, these two party-hopped as per the usual gypsy tradition of not staying in the same place too long.
Arthur Wesley as a Rastafarian Banana
There are just no words for this one.
Kristen LaFleche as Rocky Horror’s Favorite Transexual Transvestite, Dr. Frank-N-Furter
Liza Rosa as the Pink Power Ranger with Batman Friend Holding up a Legless Girl/Guy
“I had to run after him to get a picture,” says Liza.
Jackie Smith as Minnie Mouse
“I decided to be Minnie Mouse last night and had so much fun with Courtney watching Hocus Pocus and talking late into the night with tea and candy. Thank you God for a wonderful evening,” says Jackie.
Kayley Elizabeth Davis and Bruce Facundus IV as Harlequin and the Joker…and “a random Jedi photo-bombing”
Don’t forget to vote! Go to The Rival GMU homepage, scroll to the bottom, and click your favorite scary selfie. The winner of the $50 prize will be announced this Sunday, November 8th!
